Laser Tattoo Removal: What to Expect
Laser tattoo removal is a process, not a single appointment. Kat assesses every tattoo individually at her Wellington studio and builds a realistic plan based on size, colour, depth and your skin.
How a session works
Laser pulses break down ink particles beneath the skin. Your body then gradually clears the fragmented ink. Sessions are relatively quick — small tattoos may take 15 to 30 minutes including consultation time.
How many sessions?
Most tattoos need multiple sessions spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart. Black ink responds fastest; colours like green, blue and white take longer. Kat gives an honest estimate at your first appointment — results vary by tattoo and skin type.
Pain and sensation
Most clients describe laser removal as a snapping or rubber-band sensation on the skin. It's manageable for most people and sessions are short. Numbing options can be discussed for larger areas.
After each session
The treated area may be red, swollen or blister slightly — this is normal. Keep it clean, avoid sun exposure and follow Kat's aftercare instructions. Don't pick at blisters or scabs.
Pricing by size
Small tattoos (up to 5×5 cm) from $120, medium (up to 10×10 cm) from $200, and large areas from $350 per session. A free consultation is available to discuss your tattoo and expected timeline.
